Welcome to Northcentral University’s online learning community.   It is our sincere desire to do all possible to ensure your academic success along the way.  Even if you have had prior experience in online learning, we would like to guide you through Northcentral University’s distinctive active self-learning platform.

The NCU Learner Success Tour will provide you with the skills, knowledge and tools necessary to navigate in this unique learning environment.

Once you have enrolled in your first course at NCU, the registrar will send you course registration information and direct you to the Learner Login area. Logging in will give you access to your Learner Web Site, the “key to your campus”.

Before you begin, you must login to the web site with your account name and password.

Your Learner Website contains all of the resources necessary for you to navigate successfully through your program.

Let’s take a look at your University. To your left you will see the NCU Compass message system.  This is the area you will receive messages, coursework alerts, and communicate with your mentor and University staff.

On the left of your Learner Website you will see a link to any active courses and a link to the General Discussion Forum. The right side of your Learner Website has a calendar with important dates and a list of valuable NCU contacts including the Registrar, your Academic Advisor, Library Services, the MBSDirect bookstore and Accounting. Explore all of the resources contained in the center of your Learner Website. These sections include key links within each area. Now let's take a look at the NCU message system. Click on the notepad icon on the message box to display the full message.

Click on the appropriate tab to reply, forward or delete a message.

To send a message type in the first and last name of the NCU recipient, enter the subject, use the "browse" tab to insert any attachments, compose your message, and click "send".

The upper task bar on your Learner website includes your active classroom and sites that you will frequent often. If you are enrolled in more than one course, all course numbers will appear in this area. Now let’s enter your classroom by clicking on the active course tab, in this case, ED5030.

The "overview" tab displays the overview of the course and the syllabus. The "essential" tab displays important information about your course, such as the course syllabus, course outline, learning outcomes, course activity instructions and much more. The "mentor" tab displays mentor information, for example the mentor's photo, background, and contact information. The "activities" tab lists the activities for the course. Now let's go to the "activities" section of your classroom.

Clicking on an assignment number will take you to the corresponding activity. From here, you will upload NCU assignments and receive feedback from your mentor.  The "file" column reflects how many assignment files you have uploaded and how many assignment files the mentor has uploaded.  The "points" column reflects how many points the mentor has awarded per activity.  The last column reflects the number of completed activities.

When you are ready to upload an assignment, click on the "+" sign to begin. Once your assignment is submitted, an automatic message will be forwarded to your mentor.

After your mentor reviews and grades your assignments, your mentor will upload your graded assignments to your activities area.  You will receive an NCU message "Course Work Updated".  Return to the activities area of your course to download and view your graded assignment including any mentor feedback.

Other resources on your Learner task bar include "course review" to request your next course, a financial tab, the "NCU Library", the "Writing Program", "Handbooks", and "University Documents".

To request your next course, click on "course review" from the task bar on your Learner web site.  Then click on "Course Request", and then request your course.  Courses are available in your course request area as they are listed on your degree plan.

The Northcentral University Library provides resources, services and research assistance to NCU Learners, mentors, and staff.

The Writing Center is the hub of the NCU Writing Program. This center contains handouts on the NCU Writing Process and modules for Learner and Mentor development.

Click on the "Handbook" tab to display NCU Handbooks. The Learner Handbook contains information such as grading, academic integrity, learning resources and institutional policy and procedure.

In all instances, NCU requires that you use an assignment cover sheet.  This form is located on the Learner web site under "University Documents".

Let's go back to your Learner web site and scroll to the bottom to locate the area "For New Learners".

The link to the Academic Integrity Survey is located in this area.  Completing this survey is required prior to enrolling in your next course.  If you wish to review this tour, click on “Learner Orientation".
